In the races for Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, most believe the winners have already been decided. But don’t tell that to Democrat Lilia Alvarez who has raised impressive funds in a heavily tilted Republican district.
Alvarez may be young, but she’s also incredibly savvy. She was one of the main forces in the successful recall of Russell Pearce (another race that was considered impossible) and understands how to organize in conservative districts. She knows exactly how many voters she must win over to defeat Andy Kunasek and has put in place the ground forces needed to win, knocking on over 20,000 doors and targeting the most crucial voting block in District 3, independents.
With the public’s tiring of the Board’s infighting and massive lawsuits, this race is ripe for an upset. Lilia Alvarez is promising just that.
